What is Ethereum (ETH)?

Ethereum (ETH) was introduced in 2015 by Vitalik Buterin and has since become one of the most influential cryptocurrencies in the digital world. Unlike Bitcoin, which primarily serves as a digital store of value, Ethereum was created as a platform to enable smart contracts and decentralized applications (dApps).

Powered by blockchain technology, Ethereum allows developers to build and deploy decentralized applications without central oversight, which has fueled the rise of decentralized finance (DeFi) and NFTs (non-fungible tokens).

Ethereum's native cryptocurrency, ETH, is widely used for network transactions, application development, and as a digital asset for investments. The total supply of ETH is not fixed, making it unique among cryptocurrencies.

As Ethereum transitions to its proof-of-stake consensus model, known as Ethereum 2.0, it is set to become more energy-efficient and scalable, drawing increasing interest from investors worldwide.
